ive never heard of this company until recently. I went to their website and their laptops seem very good and cool. Some of the features they have i cant even find on HP and Dell and Sony. I want a laptop for college and play some games on it, but i dont want a “gaming” laptop. What do u think about MSI. their laptops seem way cooler than the other brands i mention. thanks.I really dont know how the perform cus i haven seen one yet, and thats one problem? where do u go to test them out if you want to buy them? and how can you buy them? i notice you cant even get them at the website. Anything helps. thanks.
There ok but there not very good i would much rather go with a laptop off of here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=17&name=Laptops-Notebooks
I am an MSI reseller in SLC, UT. I have purchased many many laptops from MSI and other companies. They are good laptops, and they have pretty good service. Better than dell, or hp.
If MSI’s laptops are like there motherboards they make, don’t buy!
If your after a netbook (small laptop) have a look at the Aspire One (with the 120Gb hard disk, not the one with the SSD!)
I’ve had many sub-brand notebooks but never an MSI.
If you want battery performance, please choose a notebook with less ‘extras’get just what u need. If u dont use webcan, dont get one built-in same.
I can recomend the Acer Aspire, Acer Travelmate & Maxdata’s range of machines.
If ur in the UK I would suggest you visit PC World and have a browse and get a real feel of the machines, then shop around for the best deal.
with bluetooth etc.
MSI make good GPUs but laptops hmm i think you should go for either Toshiba or Dell even HP. It all depends what you want your laptop for really
MSI is most known for their motherboards and OEM video cards but recently they have been making waves in the notebook arena.
The MSI netbook is most notable for use as a hackintosh. Many have converted one into a Macbook Pro with little problems.
Yes.. the notebooks are cool looking and MSI is well known by those of us who build computers. I would trust one… but if something goes bad, I can fix it too.
and toshiba tablet windows 7
toshiba portege 3500 tablet get I’m considering buying a laptop and after doing research have found the msi a6000-29us it seems a good deal for the features. A intel core 2 duo processor T6600 with 4gb memory and nvidia geforce 8200 m graphics and windows 7 with a 16″ screen for $ 530. The only problem is before this i hadn’t heard of msi laptops. Are they reliable? does anyone know of a similar priced laptop (under $ 600) with similar specifications. Or is this a good buy? I’m looking to use it for watching films, playing light games and doing normal schoolwork.

That’s not a bad deal.
The video card is weak by today’s gaming standards, but if you’re going to play light games you should be alright. Honestly though, I would look for a laptop with a better video card because you won’t be able to upgrade the video card, so having a better one will ensure that you can play recent and future games without having to upgrade your motherboard simply to get a better GPU.
As far as being reliable…
A computer can live for several years if you take care of it. If you periodically clear the dust out of the fans, and buy a laptop cooler (to prevent overheating)… any laptop can last a long time. Most computers fail do to the user not taking good enough care of it. A computer is also only as good as the hardware inside of it. MSI doesn’t make any of the hardware, they just manufacture the laptops. So that hardware is pretty much the same as it is in any/all laptops.
If you can spare $ 700 (I know you said under $ 600, but this is worth the extra $ 100) I would recommend this:

It has the same hardware as the laptop you listed, but it has a much better graphics card, this will allow you to have a bit of breathing room for the future of gaming. Before you know it even “light” games will require an Nvidia 9800GT or ATI equivalent.
