I’m thinking about buying either the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or the Droid Razr, but I don’t want to pay no damn $ 650+ for a phone…..I know that I can get a phone through verizon wireless with someone who has a plan already for like $ 200-$ 300. I was just wondering….can I get a phone through a friend who has verizon and not pay the full price for the phone?
I’m wondering because I want to switch to SIMPLE Mobile.
If you do not pay full price, you must sign a contract. Getting out of the contract is at least as much as the full price.
That wouldn’t work for a couple of reasons. VZW only gives discounts on their devices when you sign a new 2 year contract. If your friend is already in the middle of an existing VZW contract and wants to get a new GN, they would also have to pay the full price. Their next chance for a discount comes when their existing contract is up for renewal, and then they can only use the discount for one phone (presumably for them self). I don’t think that even matters though because most all VZW devices, including their GN, are CDMA only. I’m pretty sure Simple Mobile uses a GSM network. You’d need to get an unlocked, non-Verizon GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus to use it with them.
